My latest procrastination read is Joy Fielding's Puppet. This is a breezy thriller about a sexy lawyer who immigrates to Florida to escape her past. When she gets a call from her first ex-husband, she is forced to return. Her mother is in jail for shooting a complete stranger in a hotel lobby. A former alcoholic but no criminal, the mother refuses to explain her actions to her daughter and insists on pleading guilty.
Puppet is a well-written genre tale with added interest for me because it is set primarily in Toronto. There's no place like home, even as the locale for cons, cover-ups, and murder.Labels: mystery, thriller, Toronto
